Dr. Hyungjeon Ahn, who holds a Ph.D. in Physics from POSTECH, once analyzed complex data in research labs.
But when he began to see coffee not as a product, but as a phenomenon, everything changed.
His simple question sparked a revolution:
“Why does espresso taste different depending on who brews it?”
Together with his colleagues from mechanical and industrial engineering, he started collecting data — pressure, temperature, grind size, tamping force, extraction time — every variable imaginable.
The result was clear:
“The mechanism itself is impossible to reproduce.”
That insight became the seed of Zeroth Law — the search for a reproducible, scientific formula for coffee.
To solve this, Dr. Ahn and his team abandoned the traditional 19th-century machine structure and started from scratch.
After countless experiments, REAL9 was born — a revolutionary espresso system that precisely controls extraction pressure through a stepper motor and digitally reproduces recipes with perfect consistency.
REAL9 quickly drew global attention. Korea’s Barista Champion used it at the World Championship, perfectly replicating the same flavor on stage — proving its philosophy to the world.
But Zeroth Law didn’t stop at technology. We wanted people to experience that innovation in daily life. That idea became AMPRESSO — our brand that brings REAL9 coffee to everyone, anywhere.
AMPRESSO comes in two ways:
1. In-store cafés, where busy professionals can enjoy high-quality espresso without waiting.
2. Ampoule coffee, extracted with REAL9, sealed for freshness, and ready to mix with water anytime — café quality in your home or office.
Our pursuit of better coffee naturally led to sustainability. At the Nature Conference 2021 hosted by LG Science Park, we showcased REAL9 as a scientific solution for a sustainable future.
Traditional espresso machines consume excessive power. REAL9 cuts that down to less than 3% of conventional usage — dramatically reducing carbon emissions for cafés and large chains.
Its precise reproducibility also minimizes waste of beans, labor, and time. Even AMPRESSO’s ampoule packaging helps reduce single-use cup consumption — a small yet meaningful step toward responsible coffee.
In January 2025, Zeroth Law unveiled REAL9 FIT at CES Las Vegas, sharing our vision:

REAL9 FIT was praised for its accessibility, efficiency, and energy innovation — cutting power usage below 3% of existing machines, setting a new standard for sustainable coffee technology.
Our journey now extends beyond technology into art.
At the Monsieur Chat exhibition in Seoul, hosted by DoubleMe and MOMOboard, visitors experienced “drinkable art” — tasting espresso extracted by REAL9 while immersed in digital and visual creativity.
